Benefits of Working from Home

In my opinion, the benefits of working from home far outweigh the challenges.  I am not going to paint this “perfect picture” of what working from home is like because there are challenges.  However, as I mentioned there are so many benefits, I have found it to be well worth overcoming any obstacles there may be.

Benefits

Flexibility – Just how much flexibility will depend on whether you are working for an employer, such as in a telecommuting position, or running your own business where you are the employer.  But in either case, the flexibility of what hours you work is greater than if you were working a 9 to 5 job somewhere else.

No Commute – This is a big one, especially if you work a distance from your job.  You know how much time the commute tacks on to your work day.  And don’t forget about the gas prices.  You will save a lot of money in gas without having to drive back and forth to work.

Improved Family Time -  I think this is one of the greatest benefits of working from home.  Even though you will need to set scheduled times to work, your family will enjoy having you home and more accessible.

Live Anywhere You Want! If you are working 100% from home, you can live anywhere you want.  Move closer to family or to better living/weather conditions.  The choice is yours!

Stay in Shape – You can take time out to walk or exercise.  You can also make some healthy meals for yourself that might take a little extra time.

More Productive – This can be true if you are able to stay self-motivated.  When you are not stressed about not being there for your family or other things at home, you tend to get more work done.

Yes, working from home does come with its own challenges.  You have to be able to stay focused when no one is looking over your shoulder.  And you have to make some restrictions so that your family and friends let you work during the hours you have set.  These are things you will want to work out right from the beginning.

From the above mentioned points, however, you can see that there are many benefits to working from home.  If you have been wanting to give it a try, you may need to just take the plunge and get started.
